Education - Public Service
- Educate Residential Households on the benefits of using fluorescent light bulbs by highlighting their environmental benefits and the cost savings on electric bills from replacing incandescent bulbs.
- Educate Residential Households that CFLs can’t be thrown out in the regular trash. Instruct consumers the proper disposal of CFLs.
Pick - Up Service
- SmartAtBulbs will provide pick- up service to residential households of used, unbroken fluorescent bulbs. This service will be provided free of charge.
According to lamprecycle.org, in the average US household, lighting accounts for close to 20% of the electric bill. One of the easiest ways to save on energy bills is to change the bulbs in light fixtures for more energy efficient alternatives.
Because CFLs contain a small amount of mercury, they can’t be thrown out in the trash. Miami Dade County residents can bring them to a Home Chemical Collection Center or they must deliver them to any of the local retailers that accepts them and disposes of them properly. This fact has been one of the biggest obstacles for consumers to make the switch to CFLs.
